I love everything about the whole Pilates On Tour production. From the moment the plane lands, wherever in the world we are, the excitement begins.
It often feels to me a lot like being part of a circus, the truck backs up to the loading dock, the equipment is unloaded into the ballrooms. The metal reformers arrive all stacked on on-top of one another, the coffin-like boxes filled with Trap tables and wooden Reformer are ushered in one by one and the small accessories are in their boxes. Together, as a team, we organize, strategize, unpack and prepare for the POT.
Then, one by one, the presenters start to show up and the synergy
of being with like-minded Pilates nerds lends to the air of creativity. The
hugs, the laughter and the sharing of family events and ideas happen in the
short moments caught in the elevator or the lobby or online at the local
Starbuck’s. Lots of anticipation and attendees have not even arrived yet.
Once the show actually starts the energy and enthusiasm of the
attendees really ratchets up the excitement. It is in the moment, just before a
workshop starts, standing in front of the room, praying that my slides are all
in order and will be the roadmap I need to stay on point and hoping that I am
going to bring my best self, that I realize how grateful, truly humbled and
privileged I am that those in attendance are choosing to spend some of their
precious POT time with me.
The responsibility to bring a good, positive, thought provoking message is what drives me when I am in the preparation stage. Weeks before the show, the writing, organizing and researching a given topic, is what fuels my passion. This passion, and the desire to offer something thoughtful and relevant, is perhaps what I love most about being part of POTs. Knowing that I will be presenting to a group of talented instructors, from all Pilates traditions, who are hoping to be affirmed, inspired and excited by the content of the workshop, challenges me to strive to get better, to teach better and to offer something of value.
So, ask me what I like about being part of POT. If you want a short, succinct answer, better to ask me what I do not like! POT is part of sharing the Pilates love and supporting the Pilates community as a whole and it is a reminder that the sharing of information is a transformative and powerful way to grow as a practitioner and as a person. I hope to see you at a Pilates On Tour soon!
