What To Expect In My First Singapore Pilates Class?
Walking into a Pilates studio and having your first Pilates lesson can be daunting. But fear not, we are here to fill you in with the information and preparation you need for your first lesson.
What To Wear To Your First Singapore Pilates Class?
Firstly, the most common question for the Pilates first timer is what to wear to first Singapore Pilates class. There are a few considerations in choosing your Pilates workout attire.
Your clothes need to be stretchable to allow for various Pilates exercises. Baggy clothes should be avoided as your Pilates instructor needs to see your posture to check the alignment of your bones and muscles. In addition, certain Pilates exercises may involve raising your legs or even in back roll position hence it is better to wear tights, long pants and fitting tops to avoid embarrassing moments.
Fancy footwear is also not necessary as Pilates is done barefoot or with anti-slip socks.
You will also want to avoid accessories such as long necklaces and belts. Other than being distracting, these accessories could be dangerous if they got caught up in the Pilates equipment.
It is also advisable to tie your hair back if it is long.
Clients are also not encouraged to wear strong scents in the studio as others may be sensitive to these odors.
Most importantly, keep it simple and wear what you feel comfortable with to your first Singapore Pilates class.
What will be taught in the first Singapore Pilates lesson?
It is good to have a rough idea on what will be taught in your first Singapore Pilates class. In general, three basic concepts which are most likely to be taught in the first Pilates lesson are:
Neutral & Imprinted Spine: Locating your neutral spine is a key in Pilates. You will be taught how to locate your neutral spine and pelvis and how to maintain your neutral spine while you breathe and move. The other key position in Pilates is imprinted spine. Understanding how your abdominals and pelvis interact with other each is critical to ensure each exercise is performed correctly
Breathing: In Pilates, as opposed to Yoga, you inhale from your nose and exhale from your mouth with pursed lips. You will need to learn the correct way of breathing without tensing your shoulders.
Spinal articulation: Spinal articulation, including flexion, extension, rotation and lateral flexion are exercises that need to be incorporated in every Pilates class to ensure your spine is mobilised and flexibility.

It is important to evaluate your Pilates instructor during your first Singapore Pilates class to determine if she is suitable for you. Having a suitable Pilates instructor will make your lesson more enjoyable and fruitful. You will also get more valuable information about your body, how to make it works efficiently and safely by strengthening your muscle and increase the mobility and stability of your joints

Can you follow the pace of the Pilates class?
