Question by blaah: is it normal for your hips and ribs to hurt after taking a pilates class?
I took a pilates class for the first time on Tuesday..the day after my hips were hurting real badly.. So I took Wednesday off..

Today my hips were still hurting and my ribs were hurting too..But i sucked it up and took another pilates class..Now my hips and ribs hurt even more so..
is this normal for someone who never took pilates before? will it go away once I get used to it?

If you are new to pilates then yes, it is normal. You probably used muscles that hadn’t been worked before or may have stretched muscles that were tight from lack of use. Just take it easy and allow yourself a rest day in between as you work on strength and technique. If you find your muscles are really sore take a nice warm bath and soak in some epsom salts to calm your muscles. Also I would suggest purchasing something called Tiger Balm. It helps relieve muscle pain and you can get it at a health foods store. You also might want to give aromatherapy creams a try.

Question by ash: what is the best yoga routine and pilates routine without weights/equipment?
i am looking for some kind of yoga and pilates routine without any kind of weights or equipment, cause right now i don’t have any, but in the near future i will get some. i need a 5-7 day routine that is shows the best results and that will tone and slim quick. but i need something that is good for beginners, cause i do not exercise very often. please help.

I do a form of power yoga that mixes in pilates movements so I get it all in the YRG workout. I used to lift but don’t anymore because YRG has toned my body. I was skeptical but I read all the success stories they had so I tried it. They have some free YRG content at the site below otherwise I found their DVD’s on ebay. Good Luck

I would like to improve my strength and flexibility, etc., and I think pilates is a good way to do so, but I was just wondering if pilates is considered feminine.

Pilates is fine for men. In fact, Pilates was developed by a man, named Joseph Pilates, to take his own body from sickly to a model of perfect health. Joseph Pilates eventually became a gymnast, bodybuilder, and a trainer of fitness-oriented professions from policemen to dancers. His exercises are safe, challenging for endurance, and effective when done with proper form.
